Behind the scenes at 2LO: 'making noises'
Description
Behind the scenes at the ‘making noises’ workshop at 2LO, the second radio station in the United Kingdom which began broadcasting from Marconi House in the Strand in November 1922. This group of artists demonstrate sound effects for shows produced by the station using among other things a bass drum, firearms, and a wooden hand-cranked wheel. Pictured here in 1924, 2LO was part of the British Broadcasting Company, which became the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in 1927.
